Hime Responds to Recent Bans

Nexon America’s community liaison, Hime, recently responded to the recent bans allegedly caused by compromised accounts in a now locked topic on the Official MapleStory forums.

It isn’t a coincidence; that’s why you’re seeing a few people talk about it. I’m sorry if you feel this is an injustice but unless the decision changes, this is where we stand. We won’t tolerate those who wish to find ways to “improve” their game play by unfair means.

I will now be closing this thread and please submit a ticket if you want to appeal but as most of you stated, you will be unbanned on August 10. Thank you.

She later added:

Hime's Avatar We’re not going to ban players from using legitimate programs. I’m simply informing those who have been banned to be more careful on programs they decide to install on their computers.

Do know that we require players to abide by our Terms of Use/Service in order to play the game. Any violations of the ToU/ToS will be subjected to the appropriate actions.

If you have any additional questions about your account please submit a ticket as we do not answer account specific inquiries on the forums. Thank you.

You can read the forum post in its entirety as posted by JG31586 below.

Nexon/GM’s/Admins,

I have been following the banning threads with some interest. Seeing as the main thread has been closed there is no choice but to make another thread with questions and concerns, even if I’d prefer to respond to the closed thread.

The response provided by Hime in the closed thread were as follows;

What I’m interested in is this notion that “other running programs are interfering with the game”. If there are indeed programs that are interfering with the game, then perhaps Nexon needs to provide a list of these programs so that we know what not to run. Implying that individuals should KNOW what programs can and can not be run is insanity. Or better yet, fix your code so these issues don’t occur. And please don’t imply that the “programs” are of a hacking nature, because it is HIGHLY unlikely that all the individuals that were banned were indeed hackers. If you haven’t noticed, when hackers get banned they don’t come running to these forums. They run to the hacking forums and they don’t complain, they just make new accounts. Is the issue that your programmers don’t KNOW what programs are causing the “interference” and they don’t know HOW to fix their own poorly coded program?

Furthermore, I would like to know what exactly you are “monitoring” on my computer. Are you monitoring my browser history/cookies/cache? Are you gathering data from my computer without my consent? I’ll put this bluntly, you should tread carefully because there are laws within the United States of America against such behavior. If you are indeed monitoring “third-party” applications that are not altering data packets that sent to your servers (ie. going out of your way to gather data from our computers without or consent) you are breaking laws. FYI, we have a right to our privacy and that type of behavior would make you no better then the “hackers” you seek to eliminate. We agree to the TOS, but we do not agree for you to violate our privacy. Furthermore, a TOS agreement does not overshadow the law. This is not an accusation, it is a question. If this ends up being the case though, and the information is found, I’m sure a class action lawsuit will follow shortly after.

Take this however you would like. At the end of the day, something needs to be formally said and done about all this from the corporate heads of Nexon America.

Maplers weigh in:

Leisure's Avatar Leisure: I agree that Hime sounded a bit too accusational in that second post lol
and I also agree that a bit more details are needed about which “programs that interfere with the game”

But I don’t mind waiting 7 days (one of my accounts got banned too lol); it’s probably just a tiny mistake they made.
ROFLMFAOMagesXP's Avatar Visionous: I’m sure there’s some part of their Terms of Service that you agreed to that let them do this without a question. And I agree with this. I’m days away from reaching my first level 200, and I think I’d just quit if they banned me for say, opening iTunes.
MyTwoCents's Avatar MyTwoCents: But these bans, the story is they are getting dced and then banned with error 38. I have been dced about 25 times now and not once have I been banned. So I think its something else. I tend to take the middle road here. Not everybody in these threads are victims and Nexon is not a big EVIL company. These are all people and everyone makes mistakes. So until I know the truth I’ll defend Nexon, There are A LOT of script kiddies in this game. The day they finally get caught will look something like this. Don’tcha think?

  1. All I could say is that there were some people who were rightfully banned but dragged those legits with them. Nexon needs to update their banning system more to be able to identify those who use third-party programs so that events like these won’t occur.
