Nexon VP Min Kim Releases Announcement to MapleStory Community

In response to the stability issues in MapleStory over the past week and a half, Min Kim, VP of Live Games for Nexon America, released an announcement apologizing and thanking maplers for “sticking with us through all the difficulties,” adding, “Your unwavering support is what keeps us going.”

You can read the full announcement below.

Dear Maplers,

Around two weeks ago, MapleStory began experiencing a number of stability issues including server crashes and problems with logging in. To give you some insight on the causes, I can share that we experienced a combination of network instability as well as an increase in malicious attempts to take down our systems. During our nine days of instability, our development and production teams have been working around the clock to track down the causes of the issues and solve them. The good news is that we’ve made a lot of progress. There remain problems to solve though, and the battle against external forces that can affect our games is ongoing.

On behalf of everyone at Nexon, I’d like to offer our most sincere apologies for all the downtime and service interruptions during this time. We know that it’s not just the loss of a few items or levels; it’s the loss of the time you’ve invested in MapleStory and your confidence in our service. Your time is precious and the fact that you choose to spend it with us is something we never take for granted. MapleStory is your game, your special place. As the caretakers of this place, we take it personally when anything keeps us from delivering the solid gaming experience you deserve.

Please allow me to reiterate our commitment to pushing forward and making MapleStory everything it can and should be. Thank you for sticking with us through all the difficulties. Your unwavering support is what keeps us going.

For all of us at Nexon,

Min Kim, Vice President of Live Games

Does Kim’s announcement make you feel any better about the many issues going on in the game? Do you feel Nexon made enough of an effort or could they have done better? Let us know in the comments!

  1. It’s so hard to form an opinion on this. I mean in my opinion Nexon worked well to address the first swarm of issues and they were amazingly generous in their compensation. For one of the first times I actually feel compensated for my time and effort.

But why is this going on so long? Two weeks is a ridiculously long time for the game to be experiencing pretty continuous instability and it’s getting on my nerves.

I think he did pretty well in explaining the situation. He highlighted the issues without giving specific details, which is what a person would expect with an ongoing event. But I think that once the whole thing is sorted out more details should be given to ensure the community that Nexon has done enough to try to make sure this never happens again.

  2. Well at least I’m glad the games up and working again with no problem, although it was disappointing when I had a problem with their HackShield being corrupted and had to click PLAY multiple times… But its all fixed and running now so no problems ^-^ Thanks again VP for working hard!

  4. WHAT A CHANGE! The Nexon today is so different from the Nexon I remember one or two years ago! Anyway, I’m happy about this change of character towards the players. However … Min Kim definitely makes me feel like occultist when he says, “MapleStory is your game, your special place.” ……haha ummm….
